Richard Whittlestone

Richard is one of the UK most loved and respected wildlife artists.

Born in Yorkshire,  Richards childhood spent on the family dairy farm had a huge impact on his art. Self taught, he began painting at an early age and sold his first picture at just 13years old.  In his teens Richard bred pheasants,  quails, ducks and finches. Birds remain his first love and inspiration,  watching them and sketching them, observing how they interact with each other.

Richard has his own gallery and studio on the iconic Chatsworth Estate at Pilsley. We feel very privileged to host a selection of his work here in Belper.

Every one of Richards paintings includes his trademark ‘fly’, can you spot it?
